Trump complains in legal proceedings as Yusuf Salaam secures NYC Council position: GREENE

Yusef Salaam, former member of the Central Park Five, is elected to the Harlem City Council seat in the same week that former President Donald Trump is in a Manhattan court. In 1989, Trump called for the death penalty for Salaam and his companions, who were arrested for the rape of a white woman in Central Park. However, none of the five men did it. All five were convicted and spent years in prison but served their sentences. After their convictions were overturned in 2002 due to DNA evidence, they received a settlement from New York City in 2014. Salaam tweeted “karma” in response to Trump’s indictment in April. The Central Park Five are now moving on from their experiences.
