The release of the man detained in connection with the death of synagogue leader Samantha WollNovember 12, 2023
A man arrested in connection with the murder of Detroit synagogue leader Samantha Woll was released from custody without being charged. The man, who was close to the victim and present at her funeral, was taken into custody in Kalamazoo, about 140 miles west of Detroit. His name was not released, and no motive has been disclosed for Woll’s killing. Authorities have stated that antisemitism and discord over the Israel-Hamas war do not appear to have been factors in the case. Woll was known for her Democratic activism and served as president of the board of directors at the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue. Police have identified some persons of interest in the investigation but have not yet filed any charges.
