Rare medical condition: Alabama mother expecting twins with two uteri, one baby in each
November 16, 2023A rare Alabama woman, Kelsey Hatcher, is pregnant with twins, each growing in a separate uterus. Hatcher was born with uterine didelphys, which means she has two uteri and two cervixes. She is expecting baby girls in both uteri, and the twins are due on Christmas Day. The babies are growing healthily from two distinct eggs, making them fraternal twins. The chances of this type of pregnancy are incredibly rare, according to Dr. Richard Davis, who is assisting Hatcher with her pregnancy. Hatcher’s pregnancy is considered high-risk because each uterus could start contractions at different times, potentially resulting in the sisters being born hours or even days apart. Despite Hatcher’s desire for a natural birth, potential complications may require another method. Hatcher is already a mother to three children, ages 2, 4, and 7, and she has stated that the twins will be her last pregnancy.
