The New York Islanders were shorthanded on defense but still managed to rally and defeat the Ottawa Senators 5-3 on Friday night. Kyle Palmieri and Oliver Wahlstrom each had a goal and an assist, while Mathew Barzal, Anders Lee, and Simon Holmstrom also scored for New York. Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves for the Islanders. Both Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho were injured early in the game, leaving the Islanders with just four defensemen for the remainder of the game.

The Senators, who had just returned from Sweden, saw Drake Batherson score twice and Tim Stutzle add a goal. Anton Forsberg stopped 21 shots for Ottawa. A wild second period saw a flurry of goals as the teams combined for five total.

The Islanders managed to take a two-goal lead early in the third period, and despite a late rally from the Senators, the Islanders held on for the win. The Senators will wrap up a six-game homestand against Florida on Monday night. Meanwhile, the Islanders will host Philadelphia on Saturday night.
