New York Mets Continues Search for Bench Coach for Manager Carlos Mendoza
November 21, 2023
The Mets are in the process of filling out their coaching and front office staff for the upcoming 2024 season. The bench coach position remains vacant. Recent hiring includes Kris Gross and Andy Green for player development and amateur scouting roles, with shifting of roles on manager Carlos Mendoza’s coaching staff, moving former bench coach Eric Chavez back to his original role as hitting coach. Willie Randolph emerged as a potential bench coach, with Mendoza mentioning Randolph as a mentor. Randolph managed the Mets from 2005 to June 2008. He led the 2006 Mets to the NL East title and an NLCS appearance. Randolph hasn’t coached on a big league staff since 2011, still resides in New Jersey and is still involved with the Yankees, helping to prep prospects during spring training. The process of filling out the staff has been collaborative and will continue to be. President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has not gone into any great detail when it comes to any of his processes or philosophies yet.
