Lithium-Ion Battery Profiteers Blamed for Deaths by Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh

The cause of Sunday’s tragic blaze in Crown Heights which resulted in the deaths of a grandmother, her son, and her grandson was determined to be a lithium-ion battery on a scooter or e-bike in the home. Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, a national advocate against these dangerous devices which have led to 17 deaths this year, visited the scene and expressed her frustration with the online retailers and food delivery apps that continue to sell and use these devices. She emphasized the need for stricter regulation to prevent the sale of unsafe devices. Kavanagh stressed that these devices pose a significant risk to public safety and urged for action to prevent further tragedies.
