Former Trump Organization controller breaks down in tears during New York fraud trial, claims he resigned due to increasing investigations
November 22, 2023Tears flowed at the Trump Organization’s fraud trial Tuesday as long-time company controller Jeffrey McConney broke down on the witness stand, testifying about the dramatic conclusion to his career with Donald Trump’s company. McConney, who worked in the accounting department under convicted ex-finance chief Allen Weisselberg, wept when asked by Trump lawyer Jesus Suarez about his reasons for leaving. McConney, who retired in February, said he quit because he couldn’t deal with the legal investigations anymore. He is also accused in a $250 million civil lawsuit filed against Trump. Trump and his co-defendants were found liable for fraud, with the trial heading into its ninth week. So far, they may be on the hook for more than $300 million and barred from business in New York. After McConney finished his testimony on Tuesday, the proceedings adjourned for the holiday, and the defense case is expected to continue on Monday. Trump, the Republican front-runner for president, denies all allegations.
