Bronx Apartment Fire Leaves 5 Hospitalized, 1 in Critical Condition: FDNY

A man in his 60s was in critical condition after a massive blaze tore through a Bronx apartment building near the Bronx Zoo around 6:15 a.m. on Friday. The fire, which broke out in the top floor apartment of the six-story Holland Ave. building, quickly spread to the building’s cockloft. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in an hour and a half, but not before pulling five people from the sixth floor, all of whom suffered from smoke inhalation. The critically injured man was among those pulled from the fire. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
