Possible Exposure to HIV and Hepatitis at Massachusetts Hospital: Health Alert

The potential exposure of nearly 450 patients to HIV and hepatitis due to improper administration of intravenous medication at Salem Hospital in Massachusetts has been addressed by hospital officials, who stated that the intravenous medication was administered in a manner not consistent with best practices. The risk of infection is described as “extremely small”, and the hospital has offered free screening and set up a hotline for potentially affected patients. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is also involved in managing the situation.
