Oscar Pistorius, convicted in his girlfriend’s murder, has been granted parole after almost 10 years behind bars. The 37-year-old, who fatally shot Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, meets the requirements for parole in South Africa and will be released on Jan. 5, 2024. Pistorius, known as “Blade Runner,” fired four shots at his girlfriend and was initially convicted of culpable homicide. The court then convicted him of murder. He was initially sentenced to five years, but this was extended to 13 years and 5 months. Pistorius will now complete the remainder of his sentence under community corrections and will be supervised until his sentence ends. Pistorius will also not be allowed to leave Pretoria, where he served his sentence, and will need to undergo programs to combat anger and violence against women.
