Ohio Walmart Incident: Toddler fires bullet, mother faces child endangerment charges

A 2-year-old boy fired a gunshot inside an Ohio Walmart, leading to his mother being charged with child endangerment. The incident occurred as the mom and son were walking through the store in Waverly, about 60 miles south of Columbus. The Waverly Police Department stated that the little boy had taken his mother’s handgun from her purse and fired a shot toward the ceiling, causing minor injury to his forehead. The mother was arrested and charged with child endangerment, while the boy was released to the care of a guardian. Additionally, it was reported that from May 2022 through April 2023, there were 162 similar incidents in which a child under 13 picked up a gun and fired it, resulting in numerous casualties. The need for heightened awareness and safety measures to prevent such accidents was emphasized by the Waverly police.
