Lori Vallow, also known as the “Doomsday Mom,” pleaded not guilty in Arizona to charges of conspiring to kill her ex-husband. In Idaho, she was already convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the killings of her two children and for conspiring to kill her current husband’s ex-wife. Vallow is now accused in Arizona of plotting with her brother, Alex Cox, to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, who was shot and killed by Cox in July 2019. Vallow is also accused of conspiring with Cox to attack another relative, Brandon Boudreaux, who was shot at but not injured in October 2019.

Investigators believe that Vallow believed the men were under the influence of “dark spirits,” similar to what she said about her children, Tylee Ryan and JJ Vallow, before they disappeared in September 2019. The bodies of the children were found buried on the Idaho ranch of Vallow’s fifth husband, Chad Daybell, in June 2020. Vallow and Daybell were meant to be tried together in Idaho, but Vallow chose to have a separate speedy trial, with Daybell still awaiting trial in the state.

In Arizona, prosecutors opted not to charge Daybell in connection with the shootings of Boudreaux and Charles Vallow. Just two months after Charles Vallow’s death, Lori Vallow, Tylee and JJ moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where Chad Daybell lived with his first wife, Tammy. The next month, someone shot at Brandon Boudreaux in Arizona, and Tammy Daybell was killed in Idaho. On Nov. 5, 2019, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell were married in Hawaii.
