The New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Thursday night, scoring three goals in the third period. The Devils were without key forwards Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, and Jack Hughes, but still managed to secure the win. Vitek Vanecek made 23 saves for New Jersey, who had lost three of their last five games. Jesper Bratt, Alexander Holtz, and Tyler Toffoli all scored in the third period to secure the win for the Devils. Curtis Lazar and Nathan Bastian also scored for New Jersey, while Bryan Rust scored twice for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby extended his point streak, and Erik Karlsson tied a record for points by a defenseman in NHL history for Pittsburgh. The Devils will next host the New York Rangers, while the Penguins will visit Carolina.
