The New York Islanders defeated the Calgary Flames 5-4 on Saturday night in a shootout. Oliver Wahlstrom scored the winning goal, with Kyle Palmieri, Hudson Fasching, Mathew Barzal, and Brock Nelson also adding goals for the Islanders. Goalie Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves in regulation and overtime. For the Flames, Martin Pospisil, Blake Coleman, MacKenzie Weegar, and Yegor Sharangovich scored, with goalie Jacob Markstrom making 29 saves. Despite being outshot, the Islanders led 3-2 going into the third period. The Flames tied the game twice in the third, but the Islanders ultimately secured the win. The Islanders will face Philadelphia next, while the Flames kick off a four-game road trip against Seattle.
