Investigation launched into Taylor Swift organizers after fan fatalityNovember 23, 2023
Authorities in Rio de Janeiro are investigating the company behind Taylor Swift’s Brazil shows, including the one where a fan died due to the intense heat. The Civil Police Department of Rio de Janeiro is probing the alleged “crime of endangering the life and health” of concertgoers who attended the performance at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium on November 17. The venue was packed with thousands of fans despite the scorching temperatures, and one fan, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, fell unconscious during the show and later died at a hospital. Temperatures were extremely high, around 102 degrees with 70% humidity, and some concertgoers reported fainting while others complained of oppressive heat and limited access to water. Video footage also appeared to show Swift gasping for air during her performance. The singer postponed her concert the following night due to the extreme temperatures. Time4Fun CEO Serafim Abreu posted an apology video to those who “did not have the best possible experience” at the concert.
