Felicity Huffman, the 60-year-old Oscar nominee, has spoken up about her involvement in the college admissions scandal known as “Operation Varsity Blues.” Huffman, who served 11 days in jail and paid $15,000 to fake her daughter’s SAT answers in 2019, worked with a college counselor named Rick Singer to help her daughter get into elite universities. Singer was later sentenced to 42 months in prison for orchestrating the scheme. Huffman trusted Singer but was shocked when he presented the criminal plan to her, believing it was her only option to secure her daughter’s future. Huffman admits she felt like she had to break the law to ensure her daughter’s prospects, fearing she would be a bad mother if she didn’t do it. Her husband, fellow actor William H. Macy, did not face charges in connection to the scandal. The scandal was the subject of a Netflix documentary released in March 2021. Lori Loughlin, another actor caught up in the scheme, served nearly two months in prison alongside Huffman.
