Exploring Caribbean Cinema at the African Diaspora Film Festival in New York City

Shantaye’s World, a St. Lucia film, will be featured in the African Diaspora International Film Festival from Nov. 24 to Dec. 10. The festival will celebrate its 31st anniversary with screenings at five Manhattan locations and online. The festival will honor key Caribbean thinkers such as Claude McKay and present a wide range of documentaries, dramas, and comedies. The film “Shantaye’s World” will be shown on Dec. 9 at Columbia University’s Cowin Center at 7 p.m., followed by a VIP reception and Q&A session. Another film from the Caribbean, “Fearless” by Noella Mingo, will also be featured in the festival. Additionally, “Resilient and Renewed: Thriving in Challenging Times,” a book by Carmen Glover, will be showcased. The book is a step-by-step guide to utilizing the transformative power of resilience and is available on Amazon.

Furthermore, artist Otto Neals is displaying 37 watercolor artworks at Brooklyn’s Dorsey’s Fine Art Gallery through Dec. 16. An artist’s reception will be held on Nov. 26 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Otto Neals has ventured into various mediums throughout his career and is known for creating powerful sculptures.
