Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis cop convicted in George Floyd’s killing, is back in the prison where he was attacked last month.

The 47-year-old ex-cop’s lawyer said his condition had improved and he could leave a Tucson hospital, but they’re “very concerned” about his safety in prison.

Fellow inmate John Turscak attacked Chauvin on Nov. 24. Turscak, sentenced to 30 years in 2001, was charged with attempted murder and moved to a different facility in Tucson.

The suspect reportedly chose Black Friday to attack Chauvin, whose encounter with Floyd caused riots in 2020. Chauvin, 47, was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison for Floyd’s death.

Less than a week before the stabbing, the Supreme Court denied Chauvin’s appeal for his murder conviction and his 21-year sentence for violating Floyd’s rights.
