Dancing Days: The Killer Who Haunted a NYC Family before Murder
December 5, 2023
The man killed by police after he stabbed four of his relatives to death, including a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, happily danced in his doomed family’s home the same night he was told he’d have to move out due to his erratic behavior, video obtained by the Daily News shows.
Courtney Gordon, 38, was seen on video dancing to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” on Thanksgiving — 10 days before he went on the deadly rampage at the Far Rockaway home on Beach 22nd St. that left four dead, seriously wounded his aunt and left two police officers with stab wounds.
The footage was shot the same day the family sat down with him and asked him to move out just weeks after his aunt, Christine Watson, opened her home to her homeless nephew, who was suffering from severe mental health problems, according to a family friend.
“Thanksgiving Day, they said, ‘After Thanksgiving, you have to leave,’” recounted the friend, Charmaine Taylor. “‘You can’t stay here anymore.’ That set him off.”
The video was shot by Watson’s daughter, Suzette Taylor, who sang along and encouraged Gordon behind the camera as he swayed to the pop hit.
“Do that! Do that!” Taylor whooped as she sang along to the chart-topping tune.
Taylor, 44, was later stabbed to death by Gordon, along with her husband and two of her children, according to cops and family.
Watson’s 16-year-old daughter survived the attack when she broke through a window and dialed 911 before Gordon set fire to the home.
On Monday, family and friends confirmed that Watson was recovering from her injuries.
