Bowie’s Handwritten Lyrics Expected to Fetch $125,000 at Auction

David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics for two songs from “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” are set to be auctioned off next week. The sheet of paper features “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide” on one side and “Suffragette City” on the other. The item is expected to fetch over $125,000 and is considered a piece of rock history. The album, often hailed as one of Bowie’s most vital works, tells the story of Bowie’s androgynous and omnisexual alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. The lyric sheet was given to its original owner by Bowie at Trident Studio in London and was used by the music publisher to prepare the printed lyric sheet for the album’s inner record bag. The auction, which will also feature guitars, music memorabilia, and rare vinyl records, will take place on Tuesday.
