Blind Witness Leads to Retrial for Convicted Killer
December 6, 2023A convicted killer who served 12 years is going for a new trial after defense discovered a key eyewitness was legally blind. Nakesha Harris expressed disappointment that the case against her son Darien Harris isn’t being dropped altogether. The high school senior, accused of murder, was convicted before he could graduate. Defense lawyers revealed that crucial witness Dexter Saffold was blind when he testified, which led to the defendant’s long sentence. They have medical evidence to support this claim. Saffold was the only eyewitness who identified Harris as the shooter, but another witness couldn’t do the same. Harris’ wife is hopeful he’ll be home for the holidays but remains optimistic as the case progresses. His lawyers aim to have him released on bond at a Dec. 19 court appearance.
