Activists Aim to Disrupt Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting in Pro-Palestinian Protest
November 28, 2023
Pro-Palestinian protesters plan to disrupt the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony in New York City. The NYPD is preparing for protesters to gather on Wednesday night, which coincides with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. Protesters are encouraged to bring flags, signs, and wear Keffiyehs, or headscarves. The NYPD’s Intelligence and Counterterrorism Bureau has been alerted to the protest and will protect the city. The NYPD has stated that they will not tolerate any threats to public safety. Stating that they will be on hand to protect the tree lighting and all those attending. Organizers for the tree-lighting protest have called to suspend Christmas celebrations “in mourning for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.” The war in Gaza has raged since Oct. 7, leading to over 1,200 Israelis being killed and a cease-fire has been called.
